A new stack die for blown film offers short residence time with a new patented split-horizontal-flow concept. The DSS (dual-spiral system) die from three-year-old Techflow Design & Manufacturing Inc., Mississauga, Ont., divides the horizontal flow in each layer into two opposing coils that flow from the outside in, so a three-layer die actually has six spiral-flow layers. Dual layer distribution controls thickness within ±4-5%, TechFlow says. TechFlow has delivered one five-layer DSS die to an Italian customer and is making a seven-layer die for shipment to Argentina. Dies built so far are 5 to 10 in. diam.
