Plastics in Canada’s June 2008 magazine features improving gauge control in blown film, new way and new means. Techflow was proud to be featured in the June 2008 publication, and to be recognized as a world leader in die gauge control.

…Techflow Design (Mississauga, Ont.) uses its stackable die designs for gauge control. Company president Ricardo Rodriguez is not a big fan of automatic gauge control systems, saying those now on the market can tend to over-thin barrier layers, taking them past a critical point.

“We worked on our stackable die design for 10 years,” he says. “We have run five-layer film with less than five per cent gauge variation on this die.

With his company’s dies, each layer has two spirals whose flows counter-rotate in relation to each other. So, a five-layer die is, in actuality a 10-layer die.
